Fake migration agent arrested in Australia

A woman named Shamna Singh has been arrested in Australia while trying to leave for India. She has been accused of cheating many international students on the pretext of getting the PR and Work Visas. Ms Singh presented herself as a Registered Migration Agent. Australian Immigration Legal Support System-her business in Australia was deregistered in April 2017. As per SBS News, at least 2 foreign students have filed a complaint against her to the police. It has been confirmed by the Victoria Police that Ms Singh was arrested on 29th January. She has been charged under the following:
  • Obtaining property by fraud
  • Dealing with proceeds of crime negligently
  • False representation of self as a Registered Migration Agent
  • Charging a fee for representation for migration
Ms Singh has since been given bail but she has to appear at the Magistrate’s Court in Melbourne on 17th April. Chathurika Dissanayaka had filed a police complaint against Ms Singh in September 2017. Dissanayaka is a 39-year-old Sri Lankan citizen. She was a foreign student in Australia and has presently returned to her home country. It has also come to notice that Ms Singh is also known by the alias Marleen Charan.
