H-2B Cap to get nearly 65,000 Additional Visas in FY 2025

USCIS allocated around 64,716 additional H-2B visas for FY 2025. Industries such as hospitality and tourism, landscaping, seafood processing, and others are currently looking for a skilled workforce in the country. Granting additional visas will address the need for seasonal and other temporary workers in the country. The H-2B will also include an allocation of 20,000 visas to temporary skilled workers from the countries listed below:

  • Guatemala
  • El Salvador
  • Honduras
  • Haiti
  • Colombia
  • Ecuador
  • Costa Rica

A total of 44,716 additional visas will be allocated to workers who have already received an H-2B visa or were granted H-2B visa status during the last three fiscal years.

The H-2B visa allows eligible US employers to hire non-citizens for temporary non-agriculture work, wherein the employment is one-time, such as seasonal, temporary, fulfilling labor needs for a specific time, etc.

Conditions to obtain a H-2B visa

To sponsor a worker, the US employee must fulfill specific H2B visa criteria:

  • Have a DOL certificate to demonstrate the lack of sufficient workers to perform the temporary work.
  • The maximum stay in the US with an H-2B visa is three years.
  • Candidates who have held H-2B non-immigrant status for three years must leave the US for at least three months before re-applying.
