Overview: 

On June 27, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the time for the Citizenship and Integration Grant Program.

Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced....

Through our Citizenship and Integration Grant Program, we are helping to provide integration services to noncitizens on their journeys to becoming American citizens,” said Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

USCIS will award the organizations which prepare the immigrants for the naturalization process. It also states that USCIS will also support innovative initiatives and deepen regional and local collaboration to reach more areas around the country.

Preparing immigrants for naturalization

The competitive grant opportunities will allow organizations that prepare immigrants for naturalization and promote civic integration through

  • Increased knowledge of English
  • U.S. history and civics

Highlights of Citizenship and Integration Grant Program

USCIS aims to expand the availability of high-quality citizenship and integration services throughout the USA under this program. Below are the highlights of the program:

  • Citizenship Instruction and Naturalization Application Services: USCIS rewards 42 organizations with nearly $300,000 each for two years through this opportunity.
  • Community and Regional Integration Network Grant: This grant opportunity will focus on individualized programming for U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. This also helps them to attain the skills and knowledge required for successful citizenship.
  • Refugee and Asylee Integration Services Grant: The program will serve individuals who entered the United States as
    • Cuban or Haitian entrants;
    • Individuals admitted on a Special Immigrant Visa;
    • Victims of human trafficking and criminal activity; and
    • Abused spouses, children, and parents under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
  • Regional Hub Program: USCIS rewards approximately five to ten grants of up to $1,000,000 each for a period of two years.
  • Innovations in Citizenship Education Program: USCIS will reward innovation grants to organizations that create innovative approaches to preparing immigrants for naturalization USCIS rewards 25 organizations up to $250,000 each for two years.
