DHA updates Australia jobs list for South Africans

Australia job list for South Africans has been updated by the Department of Home Affairs. This is the list of jobs to which skilled nationals of South Africa can apply when they seek to immigrate to Australia.

The Australia jobs list for South Africans has been divided into two categories. This falls under either Skilled Occupation List for Short-Term or Strategic Skills list for Medium and Long-Term.

Nomination of an occupation from the MLTSSL is necessary for skilled immigration to Australia. There is also the option to nominate an occupation from the STSOL. This is for skilled immigration applicants who have received a nomination from a Territory or State government in Australia.

Several of the jobs in the occupation list also possess extra caveats. These ideally restrict the destination for immigration to Australia and the numbers of immigrants, as quoted by the Business Tech Co ZA.

The governments of New Zealand and Australia had earlier toughened the immigration rules for South Africans in 2017. This had given a huge setback to the prospective skilled immigrants keen to migrate to these two nations.

In April 2017, Malcolm Turnbull the Prime Minister of Australia had announced the elimination of 457 Visas with effect from March 2018. He had also announced to enhance the standards for Citizenship test for prospective applicants. However, the latter proposals were rejected by the Australian Senate and could not be implemented.

The changes to the visa policies in Australia had resulted in the removal of 200 jobs from the existing lists. Updated STSOL and MLTSSL lists were also released by the government of Australia.
