A certain facility has been announced for temporary foreign workers (TFW) in certain sectors by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Canada has exempted these foreign workers from the requirement of submitting their biometrics prior to arriving in Canada if the closest biometrics collection site is closed due to the COVID-19 disruptions.  This step in Canada immigration will bring a big positive change in the immigration check process at the border.

The TFWs exempt are those set to work in Canada in agriculture, healthcare, agri-food sectors or truck drivers in Canada.

Canada is making all efforts to collect biometrics from all TFWs in order to ensure the safety and security of the Canadian public.

When the TFWs arrive in Canada, they will be asked to give their biometric data at a POE (Point of Entry) in Canada.

Their screening will also be done by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). This will ensure that they are in Canada for essential purpose. Arriving to work in Canada is currently considered essential. Upon entry in Canada, the TFWs must self-quarantine for 14 days as per law.

IRCC is also providing additional extension to those who are not able to submit their biometrics overseas owing to COVID-19 issues.

Every migrant will get an individual instruction letter. If it states that they can submit their biometrics in a 30-day or 90-day deadline they may give biometrics only when the collection sites reopen.

An extra assurance has been given by IRCC that no application will be refused for which there are documents remaining to be submitted.

Biometrics are more effective as it collects data of migrants like fingerprints. The foreign nationals who are generally needed to submit the information include applicants for:

  • Permanent residence
  • A study or work permit (except US nationals)
  • A study or work permit extension
  • Canada visitor visa
  • A visitor record
  • Refugee or asylum status

Biometrics makes it easier and more accurate to confirm the identity of travelers arriving from a foreign country. The entry process into Canada also becomes smoother.
