Canada immigration’s charm on US residents, reasons revealed

US immigration to Canada

Interesting observations have put Canada immigration in the spotlight, especially due to the significant increase in immigration from the US to Canada.

It’s noteworthy that over 10,000 residents of the US immigrated to Canada via the Express Entry system in 2019. Express Entry is the main pathway for skilled workers around the world to enter into Canada. The applications of these candidates are managed by the Express Entry system.

The immigration of US residents in 2019 has been phenomenally impressive from what was just 600 in 2015. There are several key reasons for this trend. They include:

  • The increasing role of Express Entry in the rise of skilled worker immigration into Canada- This is evident from comparing the number of candidates who received Invitation to Apply (ITA) in 2015, when it was launched, with 2019. In 2015, only 26,000 people got ITAs for permanent residence, which increased to 85,000 annually in 2019.
  • US residents get an edge on various key factors while submitting Express Entry profiles. These factors include:
    • High levels of education
    • Fluency in English
    • Work experience

An upper hand in these factors helps them to get more opportunity to gain permanent residency via Express Entry.

  • The Global Skills Strategy introduced by Canada in 2017 has played an important role in enabling Canadian employers to bring skilled and talented workers to work in Canada. The Global Talent Stream, which is an important component of the Strategy, helps in realizing the purpose of the strategy. It helps in completing the process in around a month unlike longer processing for workers from the non-tech field.
  • The uncertainty and the hostility of US immigration policies lately in contrast to the very welcoming nature of immigration Canada have incited US residents to pursue Canada’s permanent residence.
