Canada issued invitations to 1,002 Express Entry candidates with provincial nomination to apply for Canada PR in the latest Express Entry draw.

The provincial nomination set their CRS cut-off scores at 742, by virtue of the 600 extra CRS points they received while they were provincially nominated.

A tie-break rule was applied in the Express Entry draw as per administrative requirements set by IRCC. Express Entry candidates having the minimum score were invited only if they had submitted their Express Entry profile prior to February 18, 2021, at 04:04:56 UTC.

Priority to domestic candidates

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, IRCC has been sticking to conducting only any Express Entry draw specific to CEC and PNP. The candidates under these categories were most possibly living in Canada itself. Considering other candidates with approvals for Canada PR didn’t help much as there was a delay in their arrival in Canada due to travel restrictions owing to the pandemic. This had gone on till June 21, 2021.

Even now, despite Canada’s travel restrictions starting to be gradually lifted, the Canadian border is still closed. No non-essential travel is allowed.

Nevertheless, the federal government is working on plans to bring in record-breaking numbers of fresh immigrants over the coming 3 years. In 2021 alone, IRCC expects 108,500 new immigrants to arrive in Canada via immigration programs managed by Express Entry.

The score requirements of draws specific to CEC and PNP are different. The reason is that PNP candidates are granted 600 extra CRS points when they are provincially nominated. No CEC candidate is into a competition for invitations from other programs. Hence, IRCC allows cut-off score requirements to decrease into the lower levels.

About Express Entry

Express Entry is an application management system that works on the basis of points assigned for various factors. The system deals with managing applications for 3 Federal High-Skilled programs namely CEC, FSWP, and FSTP. In some cases, PNPs also utilize the Express Entry pool of candidates to find suitable candidates fit to apply for a provincial nomination.

CRS grants the scores assigned to the profiles submitted to the Express Entry system. The CRS gives points on the basis of factors including education, experience in skilled work, skills in the official language, and age.

IRCC holds invitation rounds regularly. In each Express Entry draw, IRCC issues ITAs for Canada PR to candidates who have the highest CRS scores.

After invited candidates apply, an immigration officer of the IRCC will decide on the application. If approved, the candidates can complete the immigration process by landing in Canada, becoming a Canadian Permanent Resident.
