Google has said that Australian Business visa system is not competitive in global comparison with its peers in two crucial ways. The tech giant explained that firstly, the system does not identify the importance of pigeon-holes roles and proprietary knowledge. This is with respect to categories of skills standards in Standard Classification of Occupations for Australia and New Zealand – ANZSCO. Google further elaborated the second drawback of the Australian Business visa system is that it does not offer long-term assurance required to attract skilled overseas workers. This will have an impact on the training and growth of workforce in Australia for global competition, added Google. Business visas in Australia do not offer the stability needed for workers at senior levels who have kids and family. This is if their roles now fall under the category of short-term skills, as quoted by the Computer World. Google has disputed the immigration policy of Australia saying that it causes key policy concerns for overseas and domestic businesses in the nation. It is also worrisome for venture capital communities and start-ups in Australia added the tech company. The future job market in Australia is at risk unless it maintains continued access to overseas workers with high skills, said Google. It has called upon the Australian government to resolve the issues in its immigration policy. The global tech firm explained that the changes that were announced in 2017 to the skilled immigration visas in Australia had forced it to change its recruitment plans for the nation. From March 2018 the 457 visas will be eliminated to be replaced with new TSS visa. It has been contended by Google that skills critical for businesses have been removed from the categories of long-term visas. These are needed to attract experienced and knowledgeable workers to train young Australian workers.
