Australia witnessed a 20% increase in Indian visitors due to online visa processing in the last one year. The increase has been attributed by Australia to the changes in the visa application process it implemented last year. The Australia Visitor Visa process was made online at this time. Tourism Australia has said that the nation achieved the strategic goal of Tourism 2020 with 3 lakh plus arrivals from in India in December 2017 itself. This is 3 years in advance of the target, added TA. Currently, India is the 8th largest inbound market for Australia. 3.3 lakh Indians visited Australia for the year ending May 2018. This was an increase of 19% in comparison with the previous year, as quoted by the Times of India. Indian visitors spent about 7, 650 crores or 1.5 billion AUD on their trips for the year that ended in March 2018. This was an increase of 14% over the last year, informed TA. Department of Home Affairs in Australia said that the process of online application is an enhanced convenient option for Indian visitors to Australia. It allows them to submit the application for their Australia Tourist Visa at their convenient place and time. There is no requirement for the biometrics or in-person submission of the passports to the department, added the DHA. Department of Home Affairs Chief Migration Officer Tania Gerlach said that the expansion of online submission for applicants from India is a crucial initiative. This will assist in managing the vast numbers of visa applications processed from India, added the CMO. The pace of processing times have now enhanced, she explained. This is because both the supporting documentation along with the application is quickly available to the processing office, said Tania Gerlach.
