Australia Skill Select update: Subclass 189 and 489 Visas

The fiscal year 2017-18 for Australia Skill Select comes to an end and it witnessed an increase in the points score needed to receive an invitation. On the other hand, the number of invitations offered by the Government lowered. The quota for skilled Immigration Program is likely to remain unfulfilled for the second consecutive year. Skilled Subclass 189 and 489 Family Sponsored Visas: The qualifying pass score remains 60 points. Meanwhile, candidates intending to secure the ITA for Subclass 189 Visas must aim to secure 75 points. This is plus 5 points from the 70 point score in the recent months. The increase in points is applicable to all non-pro rata jobs. This implies that all occupations that were conventionally invited at 60 points now need 75 points. It is applicable to all occupations that are non-pro rata in the Long Term to Medium Skilled Occupation List, as quoted by the SBS. Applicants of Subclass 489 Visas Family Sponsored are expected to score 80 points for being qualified for an invitation. Notwithstanding the increased points score, the invitations have been very slow. 5 invitations per round are being offered on an average. Below is a brief of the occupations and required points in the pro rata category:
