• On 14 December 2023, a new ministerial direction for prioritizing student and student guardian visas was released.
• Ministerial Direction No. 107 formalises the Australian government prioritising students to build the international education sector.

Details of the Processing priorities

Ministerial Direction No.107 formalizes the Australian Government to process the priority for students and the student guardian visa program. It will build the ongoing work strength and the international educational sector.

 

Ministerial Direction No. 107 provides priority to Student visa applications outside Australia by:

 

• Schools sector, Foreign Affairs or Defence sector, and Postgraduate Research sector applicants
• Higher Education, English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), Vocational Education and Training (VET), and Non-Award sector applicants studying at an education provider with an Evidenc​e Level 1
• Subsequent entrant applications lodged outside Australia that include an unmarried family member under 18 years​
• All Student Guardian visa applications (lodged in or outside Australia).

 

A primary applicant and a secondary applicant will have the same priority that would be included in the direct visa.

 

After entrant means a secondary applicant for a student visa, who did not make a combined application with the primary applicant / primary visa holder.

 

The Primary applicant can take up two or more courses of study. The application will be provided by the order of priority that applies to the principal course of study. The Principal courses are the course of study with the highest Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level).

 

The student visa processing priority intends to apply for all the visa applications issued on or from 15 December 2023, as well as applications issued before this date that are yet to be finalized.

 

The Australian student visa application will previously continue in the same procedure.
