In November 2020, the Australian government removed the requirement for partner and family visa applicants to leave Australia to get their visas after placing their visa application. This is considering the present COVID-19 situation. This change was decided to be implemented in early 2021.

Now, many are asking the government to extend the temporary concession on family visa further. Julian Hill, the Labor MP, stated that there are many families with the same feeling and wants the rule to be relaxed.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation is making it hard to do international travel. Also, the inherent risks of infection involved in travel and the possibility of delayed or cancelled return travel to Australia owing to canceled flights in the other country are matters of concern.

Hence, the government is currently urged to enable family members in Australia currently to be able to apply for the visa without leaving the country. The government has now to do more in this regard as this will be a significant decision in Australia immigration.
