525,000 Overseas students arrived in Australia in 2017 which was an increase of 12% over the last year that was a record in itself. Sydney University Planning Honorary Associate Professor Glen Searle has said that the government’s preparedness for immigration is inadequate. It is morally responsible for delivering the investment needed by the immigration programs of Australia, he added.

When it comes to overseas students in Australia, this implies that affordable housing must be enhanced by the government for them. The accommodation for students is being built for quite a while now but that nowhere comes close to adequate, said the Professor.

With a part of funding from the Federal government, Universities must perhaps divest a portion of the fees for offering accommodation. Australian Bureau of Statistics has released the figures regarding the concentration of freshly arrived immigrants. This is focused on campuses of universities and inner boundaries of Sydney and Melbourne, as quoted by the ABC Net.

Only the Parramatta and Melbourne center attracted increased immigrants in 2016-17 when compared with the Monash University site south-east Melbourne’s Clayton suburb. Paul Klisaris Monash Council Mayor said that he did not want those overseas students to become scapegoats of frustrations of Australians. This was with regards to the cost of living and congestion, he added.

Malcolm Turnbull the Prime Minister of Australia had said that enhanced overseas students’ numbers are the biggest propelling factor for the growth of immigration. Currently, Australia has 200,000 extra overseas students when compared just a few years ago. This is the single largest factor, he added.
