10,000 Australia visas offered to Kiwis from 44,000 Asians quota

10,000 Australia visas have been offered to Kiwis from the 44,000 Asians quota in the Skilled Independent Visa Program. Through this, Peter Dutton the Home Affairs Minister is permitting more New Zealanders to remain in Australia. But this will also decrease the numbers of immigrants from Asia accepted by Australia.

Conventionally, Australia’s program Skilled Independent Visa offers 44, 000 places annually to applicants who are mostly Asians and overseas immigrants. However, 10,000 places in this program will now be offered to New Zealand nationals who are by now residing and employed in Australia.

The change in the allocation is a consequence of the government’s decision to amalgamate a fresh visa for Kiwis with the current SIV program. This has been done without enhancing the numbers of visas in the scheme, as quoted by the Radionz Co NZ.

The Department of Home Affairs in Australia said that the fresh policy was targeted directly at the nationals of New Zealand. It is for those who are residing in the nation for last 5 years and contributing financially to Australia, added DHA.

DHA has also given a confirmation in this regard. It has said that Kiwis receiving the new visa are already being counted as residents in Australia. This will reduce the figures of people arriving to Australia through the program, said the DHA.

Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull had announced the novel visa for New Zealand nationals in 2016. This was in acceptance of the extraordinary ties shared by both the nations.
