Latest info is out on COVID vaccination certificate for Germany travel

How to obtain a German Digital COVID Vaccine Passport for Travel

The Robert Koch Institute is the German research institute tasked with disease control and prevention in Germany. The Institute has published every necessary information for those who want to get a COVID Vaccination Passport for Germany travel.

The Institute has released a guide that revealed important information regarding the vaccination passport. The guide says that individuals fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 are eligible to get their certificate at a pharmacy. But they must provide proof of vaccination as well as their identification card to be eligible for Germany travel.

As the institute notifies, the federal states implement the issuance of COVID Vaccination Passport. If an individual gets fully vaccinated in a doctor’s office, that doctor has the authority to issue a certificate of vaccination. These certificates are in the form of a unique QR code.

For individuals already been vaccinated against the COVID-19 in vaccination centers of federal states, the code is delivered to them through email or via online portals.

The vaccination passport will be available in digital format to those who download the CovPass app on their smartphone.

The CovPass app saves the information about the vaccination status in the smartphone’s working memory. The app can quickly show whether a person has taken protection from the virus via vaccination. The app doesn’t reveal any other information except details like the holder’s status of vaccination, date of birth, name, and surname. This is applicable to those going on Germany travel.

As per plans, the app could be used to check evidence of recovery from the COVID-19 and proof of a test result in the negative.

The CovPass will be used as a supplement to the yellow vaccination certificate. With it, anybody can prove their status of COVID-19 vaccination by taking a print of the vaccination certificate or the yellow vaccination certificate. The CovPass can be used completely on a voluntary basis.

The EU has introduced the EU COVID-19 Vaccination Passport. The aim of this move is the restoration of the freedom of travel within the EU block. With such a document, travel restrictions such as quarantine, entry bans, and testing requirements will be abolished for Germany travel as well.

Fast-track visa processing for critical workers to work in Australia

Australia adds 22 occupations to the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List

The Australian Government will fast-track the processing of visas for migrant workers eligible to work in Australia if they possess the skills listed in the expanded list of priority jobs.

Alex Hawke, Australia’s Immigration Minister, has announced 22 categories of jobs that will be added to the PMSOL. This list is designed to attract workers with critical skills to work in Australia.

The occupations considered critical and are hence a part of PMSOL include civil engineers, chefs, and software programmers. They are among those who will have their visas processed on priority.

Mr. Hawke shared the observation that Australia considers the eligible workers who will work in Australia in the PMSOL occupations as job multipliers. Their role in the recovery of Australia’s economy will be crucial.

The PMSOL currently has 41 occupations listed. It was first made in September 2020 coordinating with the National Skills Commission.

The expansion of PMSOL was done after the government got feedback from business stakeholders in Australia as well as industry bodies that had skill vacancies of a critical level, requiring a filling.

The latest move by the Australian government was welcomed by AMMA and 2 of the nation’s peak hospitality bodies. They were of the opinion that it will help in addressing serious shortages of skilled workers.

Tourism Accommodation Australia and the Australian Hotels Association urged the government to include chefs on the list of critical skills.

Visa holders must meet their own quarantine expenses

Australia’s borders are still closed to international arrivals. It’s in this situation that the current revision has been implemented.

Estimates suggest that net Australian migration will take a minimum of 2 years for it to go back to pre-pandemic levels.

Sponsored visa holders in an occupation listed in PMSOL will have to meet the expenses for quarantine arrangements themselves.

Changes to working holiday visa

The government of Australia will try to address shortages in the workforce in northern and remote areas of the country. This shortage of people to work in Australia will be solved via changes to the WHM program.

These foreign workers working in the tourism and hospitality sector in those remote areas could now bring such work to be considered while applying for the extension of their stay in Australia.

This option will be provided to WHMs filing applications for extension from March 2022.

As of now, working holiday visa holders must complete 88 days of specified work to get eligibility for an extension.

Occupations currently on the PMSOL list

  • 221111 – Accountant (General)
  • 221213 – External Auditor
  • 233211 – Civil Engineer
  • 233215 – Transport Engineer

Australian migration policy to keep variables in Migration Program 2021-22 unchanged

Update on Australia Migration Program 2021-22-1

The Department of Home Affairs has put an end to speculation on the Migration Program 2021-22. DHA has given the confirmation that the program will carry forward the program’s composition and planning levels of 2020-21 in 2022. There will be no change in the number of places for the skill stream either. This means that there won’t be dramatic changes in Australian migration policy regarding the Migration Program for 2021-22.

The Migration Program of the financial year 2021- 2022 is slated to have a total planning level of 160,000 places. This includes 77,300 places for the family stream and 79,600 places for the skill stream.

The planning level for Business Innovation & Investment Program planning remains at 13,500. The planning level for the Global Talent Visa Program is 15,000. The Employer-Sponsored visa will maintain its planning level at 22,000.

The Minister of Immigration of Australia had reallocated places in some skilled visa categories recently as part of the government’s Australian migration policy. This was done in response to border, health, economic conditions resulting from the COVID-19. However, those changes only applied to the current program.

In 2021-22, the skill stream will maintain its focus on such categories of visas that will contribute to the rebound of the economy in Australia after the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the Australian migration policy, priority will be given to visas that drive job creation, economic growth, and investment in Australia.

The government has increased places for categories that are sponsored by employers in Australia. This move indicates an increase in demand.

The importance of planning levels

When it comes to DHA’s planning levels ceiling for every stream is critical to the Migration Program. But practically, they serve the purpose as mere numbers. They are never treated as targets.

Importance of the skill stream

The skill stream contributes close to 50% of the Migration Program and has a prominent place in Australian migration policy. The stream is focused on migrants who are highly skilled. They belong to the streams of Business Innovation & Investor Program, Employer-Sponsored immigration program, and Global Talent stream.

There’s a very critical need of calibrating the skilled pathways made available for immigration candidates. Only by addressing this need can the requirements of the Australian businesses can be met. That way, Australia’s economy will be rejuvenated as it revives itself from the COVID-19 pandemic period.

USCIS acts again to improve US immigration, US govt. scraps Trump memo

Visa or extension applications will not be denied outright, under new USCIS policy

The US administration has prioritized the improvement of the country’s legal immigration system and it’s going about the removal of unnecessary impediments existing in US immigration processes, especially those that concern visas to work in USA.

The USCIS has made an announcement that introduces a series of updates in its immigration policy. This will be good news to immigration candidates in different countries in the world. It will develop the aspiration in foreigners to work in USA.

The latest among the rules updated is the rescindment of a memo issued in the Trump era (July 2018). USCIS has rescinded the memo that allowed immigration officers to deny requests for benefit outright. These requests include a visa application or an application for a visa extension. The memo had authorized US immigration officers to deny without seeking further evidence first or issuing a NOID (Notice of Intent to Deny).

The government has reinstated a policy memo from June 2013. With this move, USCIS has made a statement that companies and foreign nationals should in the general case be provided a chance to correct mistakes that can be deemed innocent as well as omissions that happen unintentionally. The above-said parties should ideally be given a chance to submit additional evidence, foregoing the need for a resubmission of the complete application.

USCIS has also given clarity on the criteria for expedited US visa processing. Besides proving helpful to applicants, the validity period has been extended to 2 years for EADs (employment authorization documents) for applicants for Green Card.

What is expedited visa processing?
Expedited visa processing is done as a service exclusively for a special situation that USCIS finds eligible for due consideration for those who request benefits. It serves those who need their immigration benefit requests adjudicated urgently. The review of such requests is done by USCIS on a case-by-case basis.

It’s also learned that USCIS has clarified the criteria for whether a case of immigration can be given expedited treatment owing to severe financial loss. In case a company wants to speed up the judgment of an immigration case, it may show proof of a severe financial loss. The company is expected to also demonstrate if it’s facing a risk of losing a critical contract, failing, or is contemplating employee lay-offs.

In the case of an individual, he/she could show proof of serious financial loss by proving a loss of job. However, their need to get employment authorization alone, sans other compelling factors, wouldn’t warrant expedited treatment.

Under the new policy, non-profit organizations can also make a request to expedite their US immigration visa applications. This can be done even if premium processing is available, for a fee of $2,500, in such cases. This is known to reduce costs for non-profit organizations.

A 2-year validity is available for applicants of Green Card who apply for an EAD (Employment Authorization Document). This will be so for both the first and renewal EAD.

Visa delays cast a shadow on US immigration with troubled applicants

US visa processing delays likely for foreseeable future

Recently the 2021 NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference was held.

In the conference concerns about international students losing the chance to attend classes in the US universities have been raised by concerned parties. The huge visa backlogs have been admitted to by an official at the US State Department at the conference.

The same official stated that US consulates and embassies all over the world don’t expect the resuming of full services in the near future.

The official added that US Embassies and Consulates worldwide don’t expect to resume ‘full services’ any time soon. This has placed US immigration in a tricky place.

Challenges for international students

The challenges faced by international students due to the issues in the US visa application process were discussed in the conference. International students are finding it difficult to get appointments. The discontinuation of visa services in China was specifically discussed. Thankfully, those visa services are resuming in Beijing now.

The contribution of China to the influx of international students is considerably high in the US. The delay in US visa processing is presenting a grave situation for educational migration and the academic programs at institutions in the US.

It seems the US is telling visa applicants to wait longer. This indicates that the US visa applications are going to take longer than expected to be processed for a considerable time. This way, US immigration has made matters harder for visa applicants.

The US President, Joe Biden, had however given a directive to the DoS to resume visa processing services in the country. The directive was especially according to executive order 14012.

Under US immigration rules currently followed, the US consulates and embassies are giving priority to travelers having urgent needs. Also in priority are foreign diplomats and travelers of mission-critical categories. The people who come under critical categories include those traveling to the US to serve in the fight against COVID-19 or are arriving to work in USA to maintain food supplies.

Lower priority is assigned to student exchange visitors. The same treatment goes for some applicants of temporary US work visas and student visas.

The proposal to advise students to apply for a US study visa in a US consulate or embassy outside their own country met with criticism at the conference.

Germany’s grand move by issuing 50,000 visas to work in Germany

Germany’s grand move by issuing 50,000 visas to work in Germany

Since March 1, 2020, Germany has issued over 50,000 visas to trainees and skilled workers from third countries via the Skilled Workers Immigration Act. This all happened after the regulation came into force.

This milestone was announced on June 11, 2021. It was made during a European Commission’s conference by the German Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs. The European Commission gave approval to the establishing what’s known as Talent Partnerships involving third countries.

The Talent Partnership has the potential to become a means of attracting skilled foreign workers as well as to strengthen the structures for training in third countries, as stated by the Ministry.

The Ministry also made an announcement on March 1, 2021. The Ministry had brought to light close to 30,000 visas have been granted to specialists who were deemed qualified and trainees from third countries. This happened between March 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020, even with the COVID-19 pandemic still on.

The Act brings about the implementation of easier procedures, It also implements rules for being employed in Germany for non-EU nationals. This is done by enabling these workers to work in Germany. They could be employed even in jobs that have the possibility of being manned by EU nationals or German citizens. The Act also lets foreigners arrive in Germany for not more than 6 months to look for work.

The Act has been established by German authorities to give easier access to the labor market in Germany for workers qualified to fill many job positions in the country. These positions have remained vacant owing to a lack of skills and skilled workers.

Highly skilled workers from Western Balkans countries of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania, and Kosovo were among those who gained the most benefits from the Act. Listed among the top 10 countries, the citizens of these countries were granted most visas under the Act.

The Commission’s Talent Partnership initiative was launched on June 11, 2021, subject to the New Pact on Migration and Asylum for reasons that are the same. The EU wants to address the shortages of skills in it through the initiative. The EU wants to strengthen partnerships, that are mutually beneficial, on migration with third countries.

Margaritis Schinas, the VP for Promoting our European Way of Life gave his comments on the initiative. He said that legal migration that’s well-managed could result in great benefits to the European economy and society.  This is particularly significant as the EU block emerges from the COVID-19.

EU recognizes that labor migration can play an equally important part in filling the skills gap as much as upskilling the existing workers. It will also boost the potential for innovation in the EU.
