Big, bustling & spectacular! Australia’s Indian diaspora

Indians have set an example in a lot of ways in the world scene. Migration is an area where India is a force to reckon with. This is clearly visible in the case of Australia. Today, Indians form one of the largest migrant populations in Australia!

Australia immigration has been utilized by an increasing number of Indians for decades. The major factors that attract Indians to Australia are education and jobs. Permanent residency Australia is an in-demand service in the migration industry for Indians.

Those who migrate to Australia from India bank on their proficiency in English. They also take the opportunity to work as skilled workers, especially in the tech sector. The migrants come to work as anyone from fitters to nurses to engineers. In time, they make Australia their home!

The way Indians solve the skill shortage in Australia makes them greatly welcomed! Thus, the Indian diaspora is the fastest growing in Australia. Those born in India, now in Australia, constitute a population of 592,000 members. They represent 2.4% of the Australian population. Around 700,000 people in Australia have Indian ancestry to claim.

Coming to skilled labor, India holds the first position in Australia. India also ranks as the second-largest source of international students in Australia. Australia PR is a cultural motivation for Indians. This is because Hinduism and Sikhism are very prominent religions in Australia today!

The numbers tell the story!

Registering a tremendous surge, Australian PR applications have been massive lately. A record number of 211,723 people got Australian citizenship in 2019! India stood the largest source of Australian citizenship for the sixth year in a row! Indians are the third-largest migrant population in Australia today.

Also, in 2019, 33,611 places under Australia’s Permanent Migration Program went to Indian citizens! These developments get nourished by the growing diplomatic relationship between India and Australia. Together, the two countries register a cooperative growth in economic and social areas.

New partner visa treatment raises valid criticism in Australia

Australia Partner Visa

Partner visa is a temporary Australia travel visa. It allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen to visit Australia. The latest development in the issue of this visa has caused changes in the travel plans of these partners. This also creates a less friendly scenario to apply for a permanent partner visa!

Peter Dutton, the Australian Home Affairs Minister, has implemented new measures for the issue of partner visas. The latest development brings with it an extended time of up to 2 years to get partner visas. Coupled with a higher cost of application, it does leave applicants concerned.

Australian immigration policies on partner visas have been traditionally generous. The current dent to this is facing criticism. The new scenario is upsetting applicants. There is an allegation of a failure to act on backlogged applications by Home Affairs. The established practice by Australian law deals with partner visa applications on a demand basis. Yet, this is now challenged.

Australia immigration consultants are keeping a close watch on the current development. The angst of overseas married/de facto partners is rising. It is more so in the light of a privatised visa system. It could raise the application cost beyond $8000. This will come with a longer waiting period. Even the premium channel by private players for visa application may not help. This is because of the difficulty of meeting the costs.

The decision by Peter Dutton to cut down on partner visa allocations appears scandalous. It will affect those attempting to join their Australian spouses. A possibility of an increased departure of Australians from their homeland exists. This will hopefully alert the ministry. That could bring affairs back to a positive mode. That will also help set straight the long-kept credibility for migrant policies in Australia. How should German student visa delay matter to you in Australia

German Student Visa

The German dream for higher studies is taking a hit lately. The high delays in student visa processing in German embassies are causing concern across the world. Students trying to study in Germany are trying to deal with this scenario.

Nations like India, Cameroon, and Morocco are facing the highest delays. The eventuality of this delay is straining Germany’s position as a top study destination. A resolution is largely expected.

International students applying at 24 German Embassies and Consulates around the world have had to wait for more than 8 weeks just to get an appointment to apply for a Student Visa.

Such escalations in visa processing matter a lot to students. It would be a hard shift of choice to veer away from Germany. To them, Australia may seem to be a potential destination in this scenario.

Personalities like Kai Gehring in Germany is criticizing the situation. He is a spokesman for research and higher education policy of the Greens. His worries are valid as it only adds to prevailing issues. Those include late application deadlines and late offer letter dispatches.

Germany is reputed for top class advanced studies, especially in Engineering. International students aspiring to join such courses could save their prospects by looking for alternatives. An alternative may be sought for in Australia. Those who are trying to move from Australia to Germany for typical courses could genuinely feel stranded.

Study overseas consultants are hoping to find a positive development amidst this dilemma. For the winter semester 2019/2020, 400.000 foreign students have already enrolled. They are aspirants for higher education in Germany. It would only be fair to address the concerns of such youngsters.

Migrate to Australia – Smart ways to be a resident in Australia

migrate to australia

In Australia, migration and tourism are major activities. Internationally, people desire to relocate and reside in Australia. Australian PR gives distinct advantages.

It is the skilled migrants who stand a great chance to earn permanent residency in Australia. The skill and talent procurement plans in Australia open doors to migrants to become residents. These programs attract migrants from nations world over, especially India.

Migrants find many attractive factors in Australia’s PR visa programs. These include:

  • The work and healthcare benefits for you and your family
  • A Permanent Resident is free to live and work anywhere in Australia
  • Education is free for children up to a certain age
  • There is an option to apply for PR for relatives
  • You can apply for citizenship after a certain period

Australia has cut down on the places allotted for migrants from different categories. Hence, it would be smart to identify the migration programs that provide most opportunities. These programs help you to enter Australia for work and in time become a resident.

Australia Skilled Migration program

Australia needs and appreciates an influx of skilled migrants. You need to score high in the points assessment system to take advantage of this opportunity. The Australian government has allocated the most places for Skilled Migration Programs. Here are the visa types that fall under this program:

The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)

With this visa, skilled workers in demand can live and work permanently in Australia. If you feel you are fit for the plan, here ‘s what you should do:

  • Check if your occupation is on the skilled occupation list
  • Score 65 points for eligibility
  • Then submit an Expression of Interest in SkillSelect
  • Wait for an invitation to apply for the visa
  • Apply for the visa with valid documents

This visa is a permanent one. Right from granting this visa, you become a permanent resident in Australia. You can also add family members while submitting the application or before the visa is finalized.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)

It’s a provisional visa that lets skilled workers like you to stay in Australia for 5 years. And your family members can live, work and study in Australia. They are free to do so in designated areas of the country.

You can in time apply for a permanent residence subject to eligibility via PR (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191).

Global Talent Visa

This visa is largely implemented to invite tech talent to Australia. With an eye on the future, skilled migrants with cutting edge skills are encouraged to migrate to Australia. The Global Talent Visa is under expansion plans. A PR option is slated to be added to the visa.

Skill exchange in futuristic skill areas and innovation are the aims of Global Talent Visa. That is why tech talents get priority in this visa.

Employer-Sponsored Migration

This is yet another program that paves the path for you to get Permanent Resident status. Migrants like you are called up corresponding to the volume of skilled labor needed. This program helps an Australian employer to overcome the skilled worker shortage from the native population.

Bushfires shut down Universities in Canberra, Australia

Australia News

Australia is facing a major crisis as bushfires blaze through Victoria and New South Wales. The Australian bushfires have claimed 24 human lives and around half a billion wild animals till now. Not to forget, the thousands of homes that it has destroyed and displaced thousands of people.

Even though Australia encounters fire season every summer, this year has been the worst. Hot temperatures, nearly 48.9 degrees Celcius, and strong winds have caused the wildfires to spread rapidly. Climate change, affecting weather patterns, has also been said to have intensified the bushfires.

So what does this mean for foreign students returning to Australia after the Christmas holidays?

Smoke from the bushfires has caused air pollution to rise, making the air quality reach hazardous levels. New South Wales declared a state emergency beginning last Friday.

Canberra is the worst sufferer with the air quality becoming the worst in the world. The city has been covered in thick orange cloud due to the smoke from the bushfires.

Both the University of Canberra and the Australian National University have closed their campuses due to poor air quality.

ANU issued a statement saying that due to hazardous conditions around the Australian Capital Territory and its surroundings, the campuses at Acton, Kioloa and Mt Stromlo have been closed on 6th and 7th January.

The University of Canberra website stated that due to hazardous smoke conditions and power outages, the Bruce campus would remain closed for 48 hours from 5th January.

Both the Universities have urged their students to follow the guidelines issued by the ACT Health Directorate. The guidelines include:

  • Not using air conditioners that draw air from outside into the house
  • Staying cool and hydrated
  • If anyone has a heart or lung condition, they should ensure taking the medications on time

University campuses elsewhere remain open for now. However, students have been urged to avoid outdoor activity and stay indoors, especially those who suffer from respiratory ailments.

Australia Occupation Ceilings for 2019-2020

Australia Occupations

Australia welcomes thousands of skilled migrants every year from across the world. These educated, experienced and skilled migrants prove valuable for the growth of the Australian economy.

However, to protect the job opportunities of the Australian worker, Australia has employed “Occupation Ceilings”. Occupation Ceilings mean the maximum number of skilled immigrants who would be allowed to come to Australia in a specific career field on a skilled visa. Once the occupation ceiling for an occupation has been reached, no more invitations are issued for that occupation.

Occupation Ceilings do not apply to the following visa subclasses:

Australian Immigration News

Australia is gearing up for a number of significant immigration changes in 2020.

Here are all the Australian immigration changes that you can see in 2020.

Points Score

Scoring high points is something that all aspiring immigrants to Australia aim for.

However, the minimum score required in 2020 will remain unchanged at 65 points.

Migration Experts encourage immigrants who score 65 points lodge an Expression of Interest. Even though applicants with higher scores have a greater chance of getting an invitation, there are several other routes that aspiring immigrants can explore.

Single applicants can now take advantage of their single status by claiming an additional 10 points. Married applicants with a skilled spouse can also claim 10 points if their spouse obtains a positive Skill Assessment Report. They can also claim 5 points if their spouse can demonstrate competent English.

Having certain STEM qualifications can earn applicants an extra 10 points.

Nomination from a state or territory or sponsorship from an eligible family member can also get applicants an extra 15 points.

New Visas

Australia has set aside 25,000 visa places for the new Regional Visas. The new Subclass 491 and Subclass 494 Visas aim to attract more skilled migrants to the designated regional areas of Australia. Both these visas have a provision for Permanent Residency.

Australia will not allow visa-free travel to the UK

The Morrison Govt. of Australia are resistant to expanding a new post-Brexit trade agreement that includes visa-free travel between the UK and Australia. The Govt. argued that any agreement that bypassed the current immigration caps could be very unpopular in both countries.

Simon Birmingham, Trade Minister, said that some revision to “work rights” may be accepted by both countries. However, free movement within Australia will not be on the table during the negotiations.

Australia and New Zealand already have a free movement agreement with each other. However, the Morrison Govt. does not intend to propose a similar agreement to the UK.

Liz Truss, International Trade Secy. of the UK, said that the UK might possibly talk about free movement during the August-September visit. Prime Minister Boris Johnson also is a big advocate of creating a visa-free zone.

Australia fears that a free movement deal could have major economic and social consequences. The possibilities include the movement of high skilled Australian workers to the UK and an influx of low-skilled British citizens to Melbourne and Sydney.

The UK allows Australian passport holders to visit the UK for up to six months without a Visa. However, UK passport holders need a Visa to enter Australia. The last financial year saw 636,000 UK citizens obtain Tourist, Business or Temporary Work Visas.

Mr Birmingham believed that revising the existing immigration rules to allow more flexibility is a high probability. However, he stressed that his first priority was to seal a free trade deal that gave Australian exporters greater access to the UK market.

With the UK leaving the European Union, it now means that the UK must sign new trade deals with major economies like the US and Australia.

The UK is the eighth largest trading partner of Australia. The two-way trade between Australia and the UK in 2018 is valued at $26.9 billion. The UK is also the second-largest source country for total foreign investment in Australia.

Britain will formally leave the European Union on 31st January 2020. However, the customs, economic and migration relationship will remain the same for the coming one year while the two parties try to seal new security and trading pacts.
